Keeping Your Phone Charged Through a Long Day at the Courts
The page title points to portable power, and for pickleball players that is a practical concern. Between checking league fixtures, scoring apps, group chats for finding partners and navigating Bengaluru traffic to a venue, a phone can run low well before the last game of the evening. A compact power bank in your kit bag is one of the simplest upgrades you can make.
What to look for in a power bank
- Capacity: A bank of around 10,000 mAh is a sensible middle ground. It is light enough to carry with paddles and balls and usually gives a modern phone at least one full recharge.
- Fast charging support: Recent iPhones charge faster over USB-C Power Delivery. Older models use a Lightning cable. Check that the bank and cable suit your specific phone.
- Safety certification: Choose reputable brands with proper safety markings. Cheap unbranded cells can overheat, and that matters more when a bag sits in the sun courtside.
- Size and build: A slim, sturdy casing survives being tossed into a bag next to water bottles and shoes.
Heat and battery care in Bengaluru
Lithium batteries do not like heat. Keep your phone and power bank in the shade, never leave them on a hot bench or inside a parked car, and avoid charging while the phone is very warm. Zipped side pockets away from wet towels and bottles help too.
Practical habits for match days
Charge the power bank the night before a league session. Lower screen brightness and close apps you are not using between games. If you are organising a round robin, a charged phone keeps scores and schedules moving smoothly for everyone.
