Choosing and Using a Pickleball Court in Bengaluru

Finding the right court in Bengaluru often comes down to three things: surface, timing and travel. Pickleball has grown quickly across the city, and players now share space in sports complexes, apartment club facilities, converted badminton or tennis courts and dedicated pickleball venues. Each setting plays a little differently, so it helps to know what to look for before you commit to a regular slot.

Indoor or outdoor?

Outdoor courts give you open air and usually a faster, grippier hard surface, but Bengaluru's weather shapes when they are usable. Mid-afternoon sun can be draining, and during the monsoon months a wet court is slippery and unsafe, so many outdoor players gravitate towards early mornings and evenings. Indoor courts, often marked on wooden or synthetic badminton floors, stay playable whatever the sky is doing. The ball tends to skid less on these surfaces, and lighting and ceiling height matter more for lobs, so it is worth testing a session before booking a block of hours.

What a good court looks like

  • Clear markings: a standard court measures 20 by 44 feet, with the non-volley zone (the kitchen) extending 7 feet from the net on each side. Shared courts sometimes have overlapping lines, which can confuse newer players.
  • Correct net height: 36 inches at the sidelines and 34 inches in the centre. Tennis nets lowered for pickleball are common, so check the middle.
  • Run-off space: enough room behind the baseline and beside the sidelines to chase a ball safely.
  • Practical extras: drinking water, shade or seating, lighting for evening games and parking or easy access from a metro station.

Planning your sessions

Popular slots on weekday evenings and weekend mornings fill quickly, so book ahead wherever a venue takes reservations and confirm availability directly with the facility. Traffic across the city can turn a short distance into a long drive, so choosing a court near home or work usually means you play more often. Bring non-marking court shoes for indoor floors, and carry your own balls, since indoor and outdoor balls behave differently.

If you would rather play with a group than book alone, our leagues are a good way to get regular, matched games. For individual venue details, browse the venues section, and if you are still choosing equipment for a particular surface, the paddle guide covers the basics.
