Choosing Pickleball Gear in Bengaluru: What to Look For

Buying pickleball equipment is easier when you know which details actually matter on court. Before spending money, it helps to think about where you play, how often, and what kind of game you enjoy. This applies whether you are picking up your first paddle or replacing a worn one.

Paddles: weight, grip and surface

Most paddles fall into light, mid-weight and heavy ranges. Lighter paddles are quick at the kitchen line and kinder to the wrist and elbow. Heavier paddles give more drive and stability on groundstrokes but can tire the arm in long sessions. Grip size matters just as much. A handle that is too thin makes you squeeze harder, and one that is too thick limits wrist action. If you are unsure, an overgrip lets you build up a thinner handle. Our paddle guide explains core materials, face textures and shapes in more detail.

Balls for indoor and outdoor play

Outdoor balls are harder, have smaller holes and resist wind better. Indoor balls are softer and lighter. Bengaluru has a mix of covered halls and open-air courts, so it is worth keeping a few of each. Outdoor balls can crack faster on rough surfaces and in hot afternoon sun, so check them before match play.

Shoes and accessories

Running shoes are built for forward motion and give little lateral support. Court or tennis shoes are a safer choice for the side-to-side movement pickleball demands. Other useful items include:

  • A breathable cap or sweatband for daytime games
  • A water bottle, since sessions often run longer than planned
  • A paddle cover to protect the face and edge guard
  • Spare overgrips, which wear quickly in humid weather

Try before you commit

The best way to find gear you like is to borrow paddles from other players at open sessions. Many regulars are happy to let newcomers try theirs. You can find places to play on our courts page. Once you know your preferences, buy from a reputable retailer that offers a clear warranty and returns policy.
